Subaru have updated the BRZ range going into 2018. Australian buyers will now get the choice of a new variant at the top end of the rear-wheel drive coupe’s range called the the ‘tS’. In company-speak, that typically refers to a car that slides in just under the top high-performance STI rank.

Going forward, the model will sport a starting price of $33,990 which is for the standard BRZ with a manual transmission. However, all variants will also be receiving an upgraded infotainment system as part of the 2018 pack of improvements.

The highlights of this change does mean that satellite navigation becomes a standard feature but also that connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto finally become available. Aside from this, though, the BRZ is virtually identical to the car offered in the 2017 model year.

The new range-topping BRZ tS, though, is a much more significant addition to Subaru’s line-up than a mere infotainment upgrade. In fact, the list of spec upgrades reads plenty similar to the ones  offered by Toyota in the ‘Performance Kit’ for heir twin product, the 86.

They are relegated to upgraded suspension components, including Sachs shocks and dampers, Brembo brakes with red callipers, STI coil springs, flexible V-shaped bar, flexible draw stiffener, 18-inch STI alloy wheels finished in Black.

Meanwhile, the tS also receives some cosmetics updates to differentiate the most dynamic BRZ from the rest of the pack. They start with a new front bumper with grille and tS badging, black rear spoiler, mirrors, and shark-fin roof mounted antenna, STI exterior badging. Inside, there’s red highlights and tS logos added to the Alcantara seat trim, door panel and dashboard trim finished in Grand Luxe soft touch material, red accented steering wheel with STI logo, and red seat belts.

Subaru Australia Managing Director, Colin Christie, said: “BRZ has earned a strong following since its launch in 2012 and the addition of the tS to the range will help maintain momentum for this fun sports coupe.”
