For the 2017 Tokyo Auto Salon, Subaru will be rolling out a special version of their 2017 BRZ coupe called the STI Sport Concept. Despite being badged under the marque’s performance brand, the changes over the standard car do seem conservative.
That is, at least in comparison to their BRZ Performance Concept that they unveiled in 2015 - for one thing it’s not as wide nor does it have that ostentatious fixed rear wing and extra aero bits. Subaru has shied away from revealing too much at this point, unfortunately.
There’s a slim chin spoiler up front and a more prominent side sill, coupled with its glossy black and what looks to be a unique silver paint finish. Like the outside, STI emblems are expected to feature in the cabin, with possible material changes and sportier red contrast stitching.
Changes to the engine are expected and would also seem unlikely given both Toyota and Subaru’s actions with their 86 and BRZ yearly evolutions. The more evident changes would seem to come other mechanical upgrades.
Subaru hasn’t detailed any firm tweaks to the BRZ’s suspension but we can see braking system upgrades evidenced by the red Brembo callipers hiding behind those dark alloys. We also wonder if they will also include adjustable dampers like the Bilstein setup that they fitted to the Levorg STI Sport.
We’re still waiting for a full BRZ STI, as you might imagine.
