Record sales by customer appeal
The new Subaru Liberty and Outback have just been released in Japan and will go on sale locally in September. A bigger six-cylinder engine option, more spacious cabins and a highly efficient Constantly Variable Transmission (CVT) are among many highlights.
From November the Outback will be available with Subaru’s brand new diesel engine in combination with a six-speed manual transmission, a combination that promises astonishing fuel-efficiency and outstanding tractability.
Factory testing suggests these new models will continue the recent Subaru tradition of achieving five-star occupant safety ratings when tested locally by the independent Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). An engine cradle folds under heavy impact to isolate the block from the passenger compartment. Knee airbags are a further inclusion.
Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia, said: “New Liberty and Outback are stronger, more spacious and even safer than the current cars.
“They also adopt the Subaru Dynamic Chassis Concept that’s been so successfully applied to new generation Impreza and Forester, producing a great drive. Both models have proved their customer appeal by achieving record sales.
“The FHI engineers have again achieved a clever balance of enhanced fuel efficiency in larger and safer cars that have a longer standard features list than ever.
“Liberty and Outback will build strongly on the respected records of the current cars, at the same time maintaining the fun driving that’s at the heart of every Subaru.”
Pricing will be announced at local launch in September.
In November Subaru will also launch the six-speed manual Outback diesel.
