The newly released Subaru Levorg shares a lot with the WRX, including but not limited to its styling, driving characteristics, symmetrical all-wheel drive system, 2.0-litre turbocharged boxer engine, as well as a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.
The Australasian New Car Assessment Program had very recently declared that the new Levorg, replacing the Liberty GT in the Subaru line-up, has taken the maximum safety rating due its thorough inclusion of numerous standard safety technology.
These include standard autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane support system (LSS) and adaptive cruise control (ACC), to which ANCAP’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr James Goodwin, says:
“This is an impressive package in terms of safety,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Mr James Goodwin. The standout with this model is that it offers all three grades of AEB as standard across the model line-up,”
“This means its owners will benefit from emergency braking intervention to avoid a crash with another car at low speed; high speed; as well as upon the detection of pedestrians in the path of the vehicle.”
Because the Levorg shares an identical front structure to the WRX sedan, they both score equally well on the frontal impact test with the Levorg taking a 14.85 out of 16. On the side impact test, and again mirroring the WRX, it scores a full 16 out of 16.
For pedestrians, the Levorg (with a score of 28.31 out of 36) is also very safe in a low speed collision, providing good protection in most areas likely to be struck by a pedestrian.Overall, the Levorg scores 35.85 points out of a maximum of 37 points.
Mr Goodwin added, “Very few models sold in Australia offer AEB as standard so this is a significant offering for a car in this category, and I would urge more manufacturers to follow suit. Those in the market for a new car should look for one which carries the latest 2016 date stamp. That way they will ensure they are buying one with the highest levels of safety available.”
