Subaru Australia has confirmed its innovative EyeSight safety system will be fitted standard to 2012 Liberty and Outback 3.6R Premium models which go on-sale in December.
EyeSight safety was previewed at the Australian International Motor Show and uses a stereo camera system to drive seven key features, one of which is ‘Pre-Collision Throttle Management’.
Pre-Collision Throttle Management prevents activation of the accelerator (even if pressed by the driver) if the EyeSight system detects a barrier in front of the car such as a wall or another vehicle. The intent is to stop car park accidents should the driver accidentally select ‘Drive’ and then press the accelerator (a recent incident in Sydney saw a car accidentally drive through a concrete car park wall when the driver inadvertently pressed the accelerator, thinking he had selected ‘Park’).
“EyeSight continues Subaru’s strong commitment to safety – active safety, passive safety and preventative safety. We are immensely proud that we can introduce this technology on circa $50,000 vehicles,” revealed Subaru Australia Managing Director, Nick Senior. “We have plans to roll it out on other models over the next couple of years and before the end of the decade it is likely to be standard across the range.”
Other functions included in the Subaru EyeSight system include Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Brake Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Vehicle Sway Warning and Lead Vehicle Start Alert.
