Subaru has unveiled its STI version of the BRZ sports car at the Los Angeles Motor Show. The standard production Subaru BRZ will debut next month at the Tokyo Motor Show.
The STI version runs enhanced styling inside and out and bodywork – all with the racy look we expect from Subaru’s high performance division (Subaru Tecnica International).
Those modifications include a carbon fibre roof (like the STI version of the Subaru WRX), a low front spoiler, rear wing, wheel arch flares and a rear diffuser with twin exhaust tailpipes. Inside the racing look is enhanced by a new colour – ‘WR Blue Pearl II’ – which Subaru says is the new WR paint scheme.
The Subaru BRZ employs a new generation, naturally aspirated 2.0-litre boxer engine which is smaller, lighter and sits 120mm lower and 240mm closer to the centre of the chassis for better weight distribution. Signifying the collaborative development of this car with Toyota’s FT-86, the engine runs Toyota’s D-4S direct fuel injection system.
STI also fits its unique suspension tune, 18-inch alloy wheels and Brembo brakes.
The Subaru BRZ is rear-wheel-drive and at this point in time has not been confirmed for sale in Australia.
