The stars have finally aligned.

Japanese marque Subaru is now finally able to offer a 5-year, unlimited-mileage warranty to match the competition, leaving just Suzuki, Nissan, and Toyota to contend with 3-year warranty coverage and joining other mass-market leaders like Mazda and Hyundai.

It’s worth noting that despite this, Kia remains the segment best with their 7-year/unlimited-mileage warranty coverage. But hey, 5-years is still better than three.

All Subarus sold from January 1st will benefit from this new, longer warranty period. In addition to this, all new Subarus will also benefit from a revised capped-price servicing package. While the exact prices vary depending on the model, the XV for example costs an average of $429/year for 3-years of servicing, or an average of $481.53/year over the course of 5-years (due to a seriously-expensive 4th-year service that’ll set you back just under $764).

While Subaru servicing remains a little bit more expensive than its rivals, the general reliability of their cars means that a long service life is all but guaranteed. The combination of all-wheel drive, smooth flat-four engines, and surprisingly-robust build quality means that they remain very solid and dependable choices for buyers – probably why they sold healthily even when they had less-than-stellar warranty coverage.
