SsangYong used the Frankfurt Motor Show to unveil the replacement for its Actyon ute – the much better looking SUT-1. In fact things move fast at SsangYong as the SUT-1 was shown as a concept at Geneva in March and appeared in Frankfurt as production-ready.
A part-time four-wheel-drive, the SsangYong SUT-1 employs a 114kW/360Nm, 2.0-litre diesel engine driving through six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. Suspension is a double wishbone front end with a multi-link rear.
The four-door SsangYong SUT-1 seats five people in comfort with available leather seats and the cargo area measures two square metres. European models run a leather-wrapped steering wheel and sunroof.
Looks are much improved and herald a new, more mainstream styling direction from the Korean company which is now owned by India’s Mahindra Group. The front grille dispenses with the Actyon’s shark-nose appearance and is similar to SsangYong’s Korando SUV while the aerodynamic side flanks behind the rear doors bring some extra style.
