The two-door Wraith, the most powerful Rolls Royce so far, commences local deliveries later this year at a $645,000 ‘Driveaway’ price.

Rolls-Royce says there is a waiting list so best to get that ‘$645-large’ cheque written to guarantee delivery by year’s end.

Of course the sublime performance comes courtesy of a significant powerplant – a 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 good for 465kW/800Nm, driving through a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. That combo will get you from zero to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds – that’ll get you to the polo in time for the first chukka.

But there’s a downside to that under-bonnet urge. With a kerb weight of 2360kgs, the Rolls-Royce Wraith consumes premium unleaded at the not inconsequential rate of 14.0l/100kms…meaning it’s less fuel efficient than anything FPV makes! Of course most Wraith owners probably also own a Cruiser or Superyacht with even scarier fuel figures.

And, as we know, the Wraith debuts some impressive technology – headlined by Satellite Aided Transmission which uses GPS information to ‘read’ the road ahead to choose the most appropriate ratio in the ZF eight-speeder.

We’re not optimistic about seeing a Rolls-Royce Wraith in the Car Showroom garage anytime soon (can’t recall ever driving a Rolls-Royce press car in fact)…but we remain hopeful.
