Less apocalypse-ready, and much more powerful.
When bespoke carmaker Rezvani revealed its Tank overlander, we had to wonder if someone in their product development team had had a really bad dream about zombies taking over the world, or watched I Am Legend too many times. But despite the success of the Tank and the nearly-indestructible Tank Military Edition, Rezvani knows that (like SUV buyers), there are plenty of people who like the Tank for its style, but won’t be needed all that armour, or off-road capability, and want it to also somehow be as fast and lithe as a go-kart.
Rezvani’s listened, and now it has the Tank X, which is as lithe and road-focused as the Tank will ever likely get. Under the bonnet lies the 6.2-litre Hellcat V8, which has been supercharged to produce an astounding 527kW and 963Nm, with power going to all four wheels as you’d expect from something of this nature.
The Tank X shares that engine with the Tank Military Edition, but the X is considerably lighter. It’s dropped things like the bulletproof glass and body panels, and the electrified door handles, and the reinforced suspension, and the scan-detection system, and the gas masks, things that only the most paranoid of paranoid types would think they actually need (Chris Brown has one). Instead, the Tank X’s more pedestrian appeal adds modern tech & luxury accoutrements, and sees greater concession to comfort & practicality.
If the US$259,000 price tag (or $357k) isn’t big enough of a number for you, you can add more kit that adds greater capability and/or luxury. For example you could get a thermal night-vision system for alot of money, or for the same lot of money you could get deployable side-steps or a tow package. An off-road package is available for US$5,600 that’ll add a 6-inch lift-kit, 37-inch rubbers, and Fox 2.5-inch dampers with remote reservoir.
There’s also an Off-Road Extreme package that adds wider tyres, Dynatrac ProGrip brakes, front 1350 and rear 1410 driveshafts, Fox 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks (with electronic control), and Dynatrack ProRock XD60/80 axles with air locks & and air compressor, can be added to your Tank X for a mere US$12,500. And you’ll need all that flotsam when you go extremely off-road.
