Today, Volkswagen Australia announced a recall exercise for the new 2017 Tiguan compact SUV for a manufacturing fault with the front seatbacks.
According to the notice, the issue was identified to an incorrectly-configured manufacturing part in the factory, which can cause the laser-welded seams on the front seatbacks to behave adversely in the event of an accident. This would, naturally, increase the risk of injury to occupants.
707 new Tiguans are being called back for rectification. The complete VIN list can be viewed here.
Volkswagen Australia will be contacting affected owners by mail very soon, but we advise owners to get in touch with their nearest authorised service centre to schedule an inspection and rectification of the issue.
