For those who need to show just how far they go.
German brand Volkswagen have introduced a new variant to its Tiguan range of SUVs in Europe, that are aimed at those who not only live a more outdoorsy life, but also feel the need to show the world precisely that. The Tiguan Offroad is as its name suggests a more offroad-ready vehicle, or at least that’s what they want you to think.
As befits the name, the Tiguan Offroad comes fitted with generous amounts of black plastic body cladding, as well as bumpers on either end that incorporate skid plates that protect vital mechanicals underneath from getting bashed when you’re taking the road less travelled. In addition to these are matte-silver and black-chrome trim pieces, black roof rails & mirror caps, black 18-inch Sebring alloys, and bits on the doors that help to underscore its ‘Offroad’ appeal.
Interior revisions are limited to leather on the steering wheel and gear lever, as well as aluminium trim, stainless steel pedals, and rubber floor mats that we reckon will do a fabulous job reverberating noises round the cabin. Aesthetic tweaks end with ‘Offroad’ badges on the B-pillars, and on the scuff plates.
Naturally, the Tiguan Offroad will be offered exclusively with the 4Motion all-wheel drive system, as well as the 7-speed double-clutch automatic gearbox from Volkswagen. Engine options will also encompass the usual suspects from the European Tiguan range, with no new additions to report.
Further, the Tiguan Offroad draws uncomfortable parallels to the Tiguan Adventure that we received in 2017. As such it’s unlikely that we’ll see the Tiguan Offroad on Australian shores anytime soon, but for good measure, we’ve posed the question to Volkswagen Australia and are awaiting their response.
