The open-top version of the BMW 2 Series – the successor to the hot-selling 1-series Convertible – makes its global debut in a couple of weeks at the Paris Motor Show.
European sales start next February in the expected model guise – 220i, 228i, 220d and M235i – and expect equipment levels to match the equivalent hard-top variants.
BMW has developed a new electrically powered fabric top (black as standard or, as options, Brown with silver effect or Anthracite with silver effect) which operates in 20 seconds at speeds up to 50km/h and adopts a neat ‘boat deck’ look when folded flat.
The safety roll bar is concealed behind the seat headrests.
As we know, the 2-Series provides considerably more interior and luggage space than the previous 1-Series and BMW says the new 2-Series Convertible affords some 20 per-cent more torsional rigidity.
