For the civilised, whether gentlemanly or brutish, there’s a Mercedes-Benz coupe for you, available for order starting today. For Australia, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe will span the gamut from the sedate but sporting C200 Coupe or AMG-ified C63 S Coupe.

Price-wise, they will start at AU$65,900 at the base-end and top out at AU$162,400. For the sake of staying organised, let’s first establish what models of C Class Coupe will be arriving on our shores:

This coupe version of Mercedes-Benz’s small premium saloon arrives nearly two years since the local introduction of the C-Class sedan and wagon, and in the intervening time has left Merc stimied with no contender to rival BMW’s 4-Series and Audi’s A5 Coupe.

Despite the reduction in doors, the new C205 C-Class Coupes are longer (by 95mm) and wider (by 40mm) than the sedan it now shares the Australian offensive with, and gaines the usual coupe tropes with longer bonnet, more swooping roofline and frameless windows.

All Coupes from now on will come equipped with LED headlamps, 9 airbags versus the saloon’s 8, Mercedes-Benz’s Collision Prevention Plus and Blind Spot Monitoring, and an optional air suspension package.  Also, regardless of which engine and trim level is chosen, drive reaches the wheels via a 7G-Tronic Plus seven-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Even the base C200 Coupe gains some AMG bling in the form of 18-inch alloys, while the C250d Coupe gains 19-inchers, privacy glass, and a very diesel-like frugality of 4.4-litres/100km.

The C300 Coupe gains a more powerful version of the C200’s engine along with 19-inch alloys, a sports exhaust system, Merdeces-Benz’s Command online infotainment system and a Burmester audio system.

At the top of the C-Class hierarchy sits the C63 S Coupe, which comes with a wide range of AMG-specific performance enhancements aside from the 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 such as an electronic rear differential, AMG engine mounts, and a high performance exhaust system. It also gains the Mercedes-AMG GTS’s wheels with a 19-inch/20-inch front/rear wheel size arrangement.

It’s definitely a much more race-oriented car when compared to the other C-Classes, but occupant comfort has not been compromised with Nappa upholstery and a panoramic sunroof.

There’s also an Edition 1 package for early bird owners, which, if selected for an extra $10,900, gives their C63 S Coupe a special edition selenite grey mago paint finish, yellow decals, front ceramic brakes.
