Some websites had the LS Show-debuting Lexus LF-C2 heading into showrooms immediately as a convertible version of the RS Coupe.
Not so according to reports coming out of America.
It seems Lexus dealers reckon the sales action is in SUVs – specifically seven-seat SUVs mostly in North America – and have told Lexus in no uncertain terms that a convertible RC Coupe (good as it would be) will hardly move the needle in terms of showroom traffic.
So ‘can’ the RC Coupe open-top and burn the midnight oil developing that large crossover on the platform of the next-generation LS luxo sedan.
The ‘Coconut Telegraph’ from Lexus HQ has the RC Coupe engineers reaching for stiff drinks as they engineered the car from the outset for a convertible version. In other words: “If we’d known from the outset a convertible wasn’t happening we would have made the coupe version lighter and more dynamic.”
