New Liberty and Outback Gain More Safety Honours
Subaru's new Liberty and Outback models will be launched in Australia early next month ahead of their European debut at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in Germany.
The new models are based on an all-new chassis platform and have already gone on sale in Japan and North America.
Subaru Australia says the new lineup introduces significant technical changes including a 3.6-litre six-cylinder version of its horizontally opposed boxer engine, a Lineartronic Constantly Variable automatic transmission and a six-speed manual gearbox The Model Year 2010 Liberty (known as the Legacy in European markets) has already scored the maximum five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP).
This year Euro NCAP ramped-up its crash test procedures to evaluate new vehicles for adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection and safety assist.
Currently every model in Subaru's Australian lineup has a maximum five-star rating from the local ANCAP agency and results of barrier testing for the new Liberty and Outback will be announced shortly.
