Big things are a-coming.
It seems that Japanese luxury marque Infiniti has big plans for the upcoming Detroit motor show next month, and will use the venue to preview an upcoming full-size luxury saloon, or so we’re told. The luxury limousine segment is one that Infiniti has been very careful to skirt, given that it’s a surprisingly difficult segment to break into (unless you have a price advantage like Genesis).
To that end, Infiniti’s new design boss Alfonso Albaisa spoke rather at length to American publication Car & Driver on the subject, and promised that the marque is readying some “news” to be announced at the Detroit show.
“In Detroit, we will show something about that subject [full size limousines] which is super nice. The straight sedan is losing a little bit of appeal again, but honestly, we have a little bit of a new proportion because of new technologies, and without saying too much, we will have some news in Detroit.” - Alfonso Albaisa, Senior Vice President (Design), INFINITI
For what it’s worth, Infiniti has an uncanny ability of producing near-identical versions of its concept cars not long after they’re previewed as concepts. As such, we’re taking the arrival of a full-size saloon concept next month as a clear nod that Infiniti is coming back to the luxury limousine market.
