Note to Mercedes-Benz Australia: If you’re ever wondering about a gift for Car Showroom, look no further than these Mercedes-Benz surfboards designed in collaboration with Garrett McNamara (well your Car Showroom correspondent is a native of Cronulla beach, NSW and grew-up surfing from Wanda to Sandshoes).
And talk about global, McNamara (G-Mac in surfing parlance), a resident of Hawaii, designed the silver-coloured MBoards boards in conjunction with the team at Mercedes-Benz design in Sindelfingen, Germany. They were designed mostly for big wave surfing and even wind-tunnel tested at Benz’ R&D facility.
The boards were then made in Portugal and tested there by McNamara who had the whole surfing world talking back in November 2011 when he rode a monster 24-metre wave off the coast of Nazare.
