BMW Australia has released local details for the new, third-generation X5 SUV range which goes on-sale locally in November. Prices are up, but so are the specification levels.
Dimensionally virtually identical to the current generation, the all-new BMW X5 adopts a more aggressive look with more lines, a wider kidney-shaped grille and new-design lights front and rear. Aerodynamics get a boost too with ‘air curtains’ at the front to channel air down the sides and through side panel ‘breathers’.
Under the bonnet, power is up – the 30d good for 190kW/560Nm, 50i up to 330kW/650Nm (M50d unchanged at 280kW/740Nm). Driving through BMW’s eight-speed automatic transmission, all are faster zero to 100km/h.
Fuel consumption gains are impressive – the M50d down to 6.7l/100kms and the 30d down to 6.2l/100kms.
On the specifications front, the BMW X5 xDrive 30d steps-up to 19-inch alloy wheels and adds Bi-Xenon headlights, LED fog-lights, head-up display, lane departure and pedestrian warning systems, rear-view camera and 360-degree view and a new navigation system with internet functionality.
xDrive 50i goes to 20-inch alloys and gains adaptive suspension, LED headlights, surround view and head-up display, active cruise control, upgraded interior and Harman Kardon audio.
The local range kicks-off with three models:
xDrive 30d $99,900
xDrive 50i $133,900
M50d $147,900
