BMW’s all-new X5 has broken cover in Europe and while local details haven’t been released you can expect the third generation lineup in Australia before year’s end.
Freshened looks, extra interior space and of course even more technology highlight the latest BMW X5.
In Europe, the newcomer has arrived with a selection of three powerplants. Headline act is the X5 xDrive 50i with a new-generation V8 delivering 330kW (30kW up on the current model) and 650Nm (50NM more).
Diesel power see two choices, highlighted by the M50d again enjoying the stunning triple-turbocharged six-cylinder pumping-out 280kW/740Nm. The xDrive30d scores a revised six-cylinder diesel with 190kW on-tap (also 10kW up on the current X530d) and peak torque of 560Nm (up by 20Nm). All drive through BMW’s outstanding eight-speed automatic transmission.
European deliveries of other powerplants (xDrive40d, xDrive 35i, xDrive25d and sDrive25d will commence in December.
Styling is evolutionary and cleverly disguises the extra length of the latest BMW X5. As usual there’s plenty of high-tech detail to distinguish the newcomer including a revised grille and headlights plus Air Curtains, Air Breathers and Aero Blades for the rear window.
Inside there’s extra space, a new higher driving position and low-set instrument panel and a fresh, new look. The second row seat split-folds 40:20:40 for load carrying versatility in the 680l – 1870l cargo area, automatic tailgate is standard on all models and the third-row seats are on the options list.
On the technology front, the latest BMW X5 gains a standard 10.25-inch control screen for the iDrive system plus active cruise control and ‘stop & go function, auto parking, surround-view 360-degree camera system and BMW’s Night Vision system with human and animal detection.
BMW Australia will detail local specifications and pricing closer to launch.
