The newly launched high performance Police-spec XF pursuit car

Inspector Morse was very proud of his battered Mark II Jaguar but he wouldn't know himself in the newly launched high performance Police-spec XF pursuit car. Based on the Diesel S version of the midsize XF, this car has been developed to suit the specific requirements of the constabulary and is being evaluated by various Police forces across the UK.

Speed and controllability alone are no longer enough for police pursuit requirements. According to Geoff Cousins, UK Managing Director for Jaguar Cars: 'Police forces are looking for vehicles represent value for money, have good environmental credentials and deliver the power and performance required of a pursuit vehicle.'

2009 JAGUAR XF

Undoubtedly the Police-spec Jaguar XF fits the bill, or should that be The Bill? Its overall fuel economy is rated at 6.8 litres per 100 kilometres, CO2 emissions are just 179 grams per kilometer, and acceleration from zero to 60 miles per hour is 5.9 seconds, meaning 100 km/h should come up in about 6.1. The police should appreciate the Jag's agile handling and plush comfort, while getting about their fast business.

And a Jaguar with flashing lights would catch offenders' attention even more rapidly than, say, the old Ford Zephyrs and Zodiacs of Z-Cars.

The Police specification Jaguar features the 202kW 3.0-litre Diesel S engine with its unique, parallel sequential turbocharger system. Delivering high torque throughout the entire rev range, improved throttle response and low CO2 emissions, the twin-turbochargers work sequentially to deliver unrivalled response and best-in-class torque that means the XF packs a huge punch at all engine speeds.

The XF has picked up more than 20 international awards since launch, most recently 'Britain's in the Auto Express Driver Power survey for 2009, 'Best Executive Car' at the What Diesel Magazine awards 2009 and the award for 'Best Executive Car' at the 2009 Fleet World Honours.

The XF 3.0L Diesel will go on sale in Australia in August.
