Ford’s excellent German-sourced Mondeo will be the first Australian model to score the much-heralded turbocharged 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine.
The Mondeo – Car Showroom’s favorite mid-sizer – receives the 149kW/300Nm powerplant in a few months, ahead of the Falcon.
Replacing the current 2.3-litre Duratec engine in the Mondeo, the new turbocharged 2.0-litre delivers significantly more zip (the Duratec is good for 118kW/208Nm).
Drive will be via Ford’s PowerShift six-speed automatic and fuel economy is said to average 8.0l/100kms (9.5l/100kms for the current model).
Diesel-powered Mondeo’s will retain the existing turbocharged 2.0-litre Duratorq engine which is also very handy.
The EcoBoost Falcon is slated for introduction within the next 12 months – the first rear-wheel-drive application for the turbocharged four-cylinder.
“We believe that these engines will provide customers with a genuinely attractive alternative to diesel or hybrid power units, delivering highly competitive fuel economy and cost of ownership, along with the responsive performance and wide rev range that have made petrol engines the favored choice for so many drivers,” explained Ford Australia CEO Bob Graziano.
