These first photos of Mitsubishi's all-new compact SUV - currently called the RVR - clearly show its family links to the Outlander and Lancer.
Proportionally similar to the Volkswagen Tiguan/Audi Q5, Mitsubishi's newcomer (expect it to be renamed before Australian launch early next year) joins the Outlander, Challenger and Pajero to complete a comprehensive SUV lineup.
Mitsubishi Australia says the RVR will be powered by the 1.8-litre MIVEC four cylinder petrol engine however we'd be surprised if there wasn't a diesel engine included in the model lineup (possibly the Challenger engine).
The company is also being tight-lipped about pricing but Nissan's Dualis (staring at $24,990) would be the target.
Speaking at the launch of the all-new Challenger, Mitsubishi's CEO, Mr Rob McEniry told Car Showroom the RVR - like the Dualis - will be sold in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. 'Unlike Challenger customers, buyers in the compact SUV segment are telling us two-wheel-drive is a good thing,' he said.
The less complex technology in two-wheel-drive models also keeps prices down.
