Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV electric car seems to have been coming longer than a cure for the cold, but at the Australian International Motor Show, Mitsubishi provided a look into the future for the electric compact by previewing a sports version.
With power from lithium-ion batteries, the i-MiEV Sport is all-wheel-drive - two in-wheel motors power the fronts and a single unit drives the rears. Mitsubishi’s Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) vehicle dynamics system manages the process.
Weighing just 970 kgs and with 680Nm of torque available, the i-MiEV Sport has a top speed of 180km/h.
The diminutive sporty coupe also debuts some new technology for electric cars. Photovoltaic solar cells in the roof and a power-generating fan in the front grille boost the batteries on the go, giving the i-MiEV Sport a range of about 200kms on a single charge.
