Development was jointly handled by AMG and HWA AG – the company responsible for Mercedes-Benz’ DTM (German Touring Car Championship) racing.

Apart from the massive rear wing, the carbon fibre bodywork has been widened (to accommodate racing slicks) and extra cooling ducts added. In addition, a larger underbody diffuser is fitted.

GT3 racing regulations do not permit substantial changes t the engine, however a dry sump system has been fitted to the 6.3-litre V8. With lower weight and revised gear ratios, the SLS AMG GT3 accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed in excess of 300 km/h.

While the racing version of the SLS is not coming to Australia, local sakes of the stunning road car will commence in July-August.
