The annual gathering of classic cars at the Motorsclassica show in Melbourne is gathering momentum and as has been the case for the last couple of years Mercedes-Benz too the opportunity to host some VIPs and customers to preview some glorious new models.
Headlining the show was the Australian debut of the glorious new Mercedes-Maybach S 600.
This is the range-topper of the S Class family and hence the ultimate luxury model from Mercedes-benz with a price tag of $448,610.
And in every way it is an astonishing car for the discerning few (those seated in the two individual rear seats enjoy the world’s quietest production car).
It is lavishly spacious – in fact the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 is 20cm longer than the long-wheelbase S- Class.
Power comes from a 390kW/830Nm bi-turbo V12 petrol engine.
Mercedes-Maybach is now a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz (the other one is Mercedes-AMG).
And, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its remarkable success in the 1955 Mille Miglia road race, ‘Benz unveiled the SL Special Edition Mille Miglia 417.
That number (417) is the number of the 300 SL which American John Fitch drove to fifth outright and victory in the production car class in 1955 –the Mille Miglia uses the car’s starting time for its number so the 300 SL started at 4:17am).
For the limited edition model the gorgeous Mercedes-Benz SL adds red highlights (front and rear spoilers, brake calipers and for the AMG Performance alloy wheels (19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear).
Standard paint colour is magnetite black metallic or you can option ‘Designo Night Black Mango’, Designo Cashmere White Mango’ (both matte finishes) or if matte paint doesn’t float your boat you can have ‘Designo Diamond White Bright’.
Inside the eye-catching AMG-enhanced interior continues the theme with red edging for the seats, centre console inlays, door centre pillars and arm-rests.
Seat headrests feature the ‘SL Mille Miglia’ embroidered logo, the steering wheel is finished in red/black Nappa leather, trim elements are in matte carbon and the floor mats (black of course)are also adorned with the ‘1000 Miglia’ logo.
The Mercedes-Benz SL Special Edition Mille Miglia 417 is available in either the six-cylinder SL 400 of V8 SL 500 and will cost $15,900 over the equivalent standard model.
