Mercedes-Benz has something cooking in its research and development division that will be culminating in their planned assault on fully electric and autonomous-capable cars of the near future.

The way it’s looking, they plan to unveil something significant in that vein at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, which is days away. To keep the suspense at full tilt until the sheets are proverbially pulled off in the French capital, the German automaker has released a teaser partially showing the vehicle and some of its details.

Attached with the slogan ‘Ready to change’, the statement implies that the marque is poised to embrace the future of cars. One that’s increasingly focused on the use of artificial intelligence and zero emissions powertrains.

This is the first car that’s likely to be part (at least when matures into a production model) Mercedes-Benz’s all-new EQ range of electric vehicles. They have filed trademarks for that as well as the EQG name, which leads us to suspect is this particular car’s name. EQ Inside and EQ Boost were also among the names listed in the filing.

Looking forward, other cars which conform to the current layout of the Benz line-up should be receiving an EQ prefix but should be entirely new cars despite the visual resemblance, meaning an A-Class equivalent EQA, and an C-Class approximate called the EQC.

As we can see via the teaser, even past the obscuring ‘power on’ symbol, is a front fascia that’s dominated by illuminated elements, although there does seem to be some air cooling intakes located on the lower corners.

Inside, the car’s exterior luminescence is a theme carried into the cabin, from the steering wheel to the floating touch-enabled centre console. And apart from the odd glimpse, nothing was parseable that disclosed any new information about the new Merc EV.

Volkswagen is also planning to unveil an important car in their own planned EV portfolio which they claim will be as iconic as the original Beetle. Safe to say that this is forming quite an encompassing topic for this Paris Motor Show with at least two key players in the automotive world are making big announcements there.
