Northern hemisphere markets are about to see the latest version of the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG – the German giant’s ultimate high-performance ‘tough-roader’.

At the heart is of course the awesome 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8 petrol engine driving through the AMG Speedshift Plus 7-speed automatic transmission. With 400kW/760Nm that’ll get you out of trouble wherever you venture. Zero to 100km/h is slated at just 5.3 seconds (that shades by one-tenth the supercharged V8 Range Rover Sport).

Underneath, AMG has fettled the sports suspension for better driving dynamics, revised the ESP tune and also introduced new measures to reduce NVH.

Brakes are larger and there are new-design 20-inch alloy wheel in ‘Titanium Grey’.

On the styling front, the G63 AMG gains the latest AMG style with a high-gloss black ‘twin-blade’ radiator grille, revised bumpers, new LED DRLs and bi-xenon headlights, flared fenders and stainless steel running boards and side trim highlights.

Inside there’s a new instrument panel and infotainment system, white-lit AMG sills and ‘Designo’ leather for the seats and door trims.

Mercedes-Benz Australia chief Horst Von Sandon loves the AMG-tweaked ‘G’ model so you can bet he’ll be negotiating hard to bring the newcomer ‘downunder’.
