Mercedes-Benz Australia has delivered the first nine military-specification G-Wagons to the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
Two were earlier delivered at the G-Wagon’s production facility in Austria.
The M-Benz G-Wagon fleet – part of the ADF’s 1200 vehicle tactical fleet order called ‘Project Overlander’ – comprises four-wheel-drive station wagons, four-wheel-drive cab-chassis vehicles and six-wheel-drive vehicles in both single and dual-cab variants.
All are powered by the familiar Mercedes-Benz 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine.
Local engineering firm G.H. Varley is supplying specialist modules for fitment to some of the vehicles and, if required, Mercedes-Benz can fit its own bespoke armoured protection components.
Mercedes-Benz has a long association with the ADF with vehicles such as Unimog cross-country trucks, Actros 8x8 fuel tankers, buses and vans.
