While Mercedes-Benz prepares its X-Class luxo-ute for production, they figured that impatient Aussies may need a hardcore workhorse to pass the time with. Enter the G-Professional, the most hardcore hard-work “Geländewagen” ever.

With prices starting at $119,900, the G-Professional is certainly priced like a Mercedes-Benz, but it offers very little in the way of creature comforts, as we’d naturally expect. Instead, time and resources have been spent making sure that the G-Professional is well and truly infallible, regardless of what might stand in its way.

For starters, it touts a scarcely-believable 2,085kg payload without a tray, 245mm ground clearance, no less than three differential locks (that can be moved to low-range while in motion), as well as a 650mm wading depth, replete with adjustable engine speed control.

Standard exterior embellishments include things like a snorkel, a bull bar, black-painted headlight and indicator protectors, radiator and sump guards, and 16-inch rims wrapped in all-terrain rubber. The interior gets hard-wearing vinyl seat covers (no Artico leather here), two water drain plugs in the floor, rubber floor mats, storage compartments under the seats, arm rests, a lockable glove box, and air conditioning. We’re not kidding.

Under the bonnet lies a 3.0-litre V6, which cranks out 135kW and 400Nm. Drive is split 50:50 to all four wheels permanently, through a 5-speed automatic gearbox. The hardcore German ute boasts an approach angle of 38-degrees, a 35-degree departure angle, and a 22-degree break over point. Braked towing capacity is rated at 2,120kg, while unbraked capacity is capped at 750kg. The G-Professional weighs in at a total of 4,490kg.

Despite being utilitarian, the G-Professional has safety kit befitting a Mercedes-Benz. It comes standard with electronic stability control (which can be switched on or off), anti-lock brakes, brake assist, and electronic brake distribution. Airbags, however, stand at just two. The über-ute is offered in white, black, Desert Sand, Deep Orange, Flame Red, and Fir Green.
