Mercedes-Benz will ramp-up its electric vehicle technology from 2014 with the launch of an electric version of the B-Class.

‘Benz will show a so-called concept version of the electric B-Class at the Paris Motor Show, but in fact it is close to production standard already. The company has adopted the moniker ‘Electric Drive’ for its electric vehicle drive and in Paris, the new electric B-Class will be joined by the Smart Brabus Electric Drive and SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive.

The clever part of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive comes in the storage of the batteries and electric driveline components without impacting the versatile and spacious interior. As the B-Class is primarily a family vehicle that’s a smart move.

Power comes from an electric motor with 100kW/310Nm on-tap and offering a range of more than 200kms. The Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive can re-charge at a standard European household 230V outlet or fast-charge at a high-voltage 400V terminal.
