For series-production four-seater vehicles, that is.
Mercedes-AMG previously said of its GT 4-Door Coupé that it’d managed to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in “7-minutes 30-something,” according to brand boss Tobias Moers. The vagueness of Moers statement was infuriating, because the seven-and-a-half mark would make it within a shout of being the fastest 4-seater production car around the fabled ‘Green Hell.’
Well, AMG’s finally decided to be forthcoming (and we promise we didn’t torture them). The very large, and very powerful GT 4-Door Coupé has not only been given an official ‘Ring time, but it’s also clinched a title. With 7-minutes 25.41-seconds recorded, it’s now the fastest series-production 4-seater to ever go round the North Loop of the German track, outdoing the absolutely-insane Jaguar XE SV Project 8 (07:21-minutes recorded), and the Jag is only a ‘series-production 4-seater’ if the specifics are negotiable.
With no mechanical upgrades, the AMG GT63 S 4Matic+ hit the ‘Ring and made use of its rear diff-lock and AMG Dynamics agility program. There was some additional it in the form of optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tyres, but that was about it. You can check out the video to see just how the AMG GT63 S 4Matic+ took on the Nürburgring and, arguably, conquered it.
