It might not be the flashiest new car to emerge from Mercedes-AMG, but it’ll definitely have more of an impact on sales just by virtue of it being the most accessible high performance sedan from Affalterbach. Shortly after the release of the facelifted C-Class, we now have the updated C 43 for 2019.
Just as was the case with the standard W205, you’d be hard pressed to spot the visual differences between this and the outgoing pre-facelift C 43. However, to be specific, there’s a new front bumper that sports some wider intakes as well as a rear bumper that’s been slightly reshaped to accommodate the new rounded tailpipes. Additionally, the exterior updates include new “aerodynamically optimised” wheels and a restyled radiator grille specific to AMG models.
Those expecting the V6 engine in the C 43 swapped out for Benz’s newest inline-6 have been proved wrong as here the 3.0-litre unit has been retained but tuned to produce more power (17kW) while enjoying slight increases in efficiency. This has been achieved thanks to an increase in turbocharger pressure from the twin turbines, a retuned ECU.
A 9-speed automatic transmission is mated to this improved V6, just as before, Being a 4Matic, a total of 287kW and 520Nm are sent to all four wheels this time, enabling a 100km/h sprint time of 4.7 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h, though.
AMG have also spent time refining the C 43’s interior package to reflect how far the car has come since its initial introduction in 2015. It uses the latest premium materials to come out of Mercedes-Benz, with ample application of the perforated leather finishes and galvanised satin metallic trim.
There are also new optional AMG Performance Seats for front occupants that, in addition to improving lateral support can be heated and cooled in various stages. AMG uses a multiple materials to maximise textured grip and comfort here, including their DINAMICA microfibre and ARTICO artificial leather.
