The hottest version Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe, the AMG C63R, has been seen whipping around the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit. And though it has not yet been released, Merc apparently decided against putting even a shred of camouflage on its deep blue body.

Which is just as well, as there’s really nothing about the car that could come as a real surprise; unlike, perhaps, the AMG-GT R that did feature lots of new aero bits and an especially angry colour.

The AMG C63R coupe shares the GT’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, as is audibly apparent, and looks very planted and composed (i.e FAST) through the bends of the Green Hell. This could definitely be down to that fixed rear wing, widened track, as well as that more aggressively angled front splitter and rear diffuser combo.

Assuming Mercedes-AMG has not elected to detune the V8 from the state it was in in the AMG-GTS or GT R -  where it produces as much as 477kW - it will surely cause quite a bother to rivals BMW down in Munich with their M4 GTS whose 3.0-litre turbo six chucks out 368kW.

Both cars use more carbon fibre than the other variants of the same model. On balance, though, we might give the Bimmer the slight weight advantage but the added firepower and newfound aero will put these two rivals pretty much on par.

However, should the engine arrive unchanged from the most powerful AMG-GT coupe, the BMW won’t really be able to keep up in a straight line. We’ll need to wait until Mercedes-Benz announces the C63 R in full to really get a handle on where it slots in with its closest rivals.

That said, should everything turn out like it should, Mercedes-Benz’s AMG should have more than a match on its hands to put some shame on BMW’s M division, at least in the small performance coupe front.

Of course, this does leave room for an ultimate performance model in the form of the Black Edition. That does seem a tad unlikely as Benz has ostensibly shelved that tier in its most recent generation of cars.
