And extra EQ Boost zing when needed.

2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 43 4Matic+ 4-Door Coupe

Mercedes-AMG this week has expanded the lineup of its GT 4-Door Coupe, one of the most exciting new cars on the market with a stupid name. The GT43 has gone on sale in Europe where it joins the GT53 and GT63 models, but here uses the same inline-6 engine as the GT53, just in a different state of tune.

The engine in the GT43 produces a pretty healthy 273kW and 500Nm, with power going to all-four wheels via a 9-speed AMG Speedshift TCT automatic and a performance-focused 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. On top of that, there’s also the EQ Boost integrated starter-alternator motor that provides an additional 16kW and 250Nm when required, helping the GT43 hit 100km/h from rest in a respectable 4.9-seconds.

Looks-wise, you’ll be hard to tell the difference between the GT43 and its siblings. But as a result, the GT43 benefits from the full gamut of optional exterior enhancements that the GT53 gets, like the Night Package, the Aerodynamics Package, and the pair of Carbon Fibre packages that AMG offers. Additionally there’s a whole range of alloy wheels to choose from, ranging from 19-inches in diameter to 21-inches at their biggest.

The Mercedes-AMG GT43 4-Door Coupe is on sale today, with prices in Germany beginning at €95,260 (or $153,550), slotting neatly below the €109,180 (or $175,990) Mercedes-AMG GT53 4-Door Coupe. The AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has yet to arrive here though, with Australian introduction pegged for Q2 2019. When it does arrive though, it’s unclear if the GT43 will be part of the offering, or if Mercedes-Benz Australia will focus on the punchier models instead.
