With an endless stream of previews, all pretend like we haven’t seen the entire car already.
Seemingly in denial of a massive leak late last month, British supercar specialists McLaren continue the slow-drip of information leading up to the March 7th reveal of its successor to the 650S supercar at the Geneva motor show. In today’s edition, they detail the bit about massively-fast cars that people often take for granted: Braking.
With the capability to hit 200km/h from rest in just 7.8-seconds (thanks to a brand new V8 engine that we’ve reported on here), the ‘720S’ is also able to come to a halt in just 4.6-seconds and 117 meters. According to McLaren, that’s about 6-meters less than the 650S it replaces, and “almost on par” with their halo hypercar, the McLaren P1.
Chris Goodwin, head test driver at McLaren, said that “As well as delivering the outstanding driver involvement and enjoyment for which the brand is renowned, McLaren’s new supercar will also excel in everyday driving.” The capabilities of the ’720S’ (a name that has yet to be confirmed, but is widely pipped to be used) were developed and honed extensively through “the most rigorous development program” ever undertaken by the British marque.
“The extreme performance and dynamic prowess of the second-generation Super Series, honed by testing at the limits and beyond, provides the perfect foundation for it to be the most complete supercar across the full range of use,” Goodwin continued. The carbon-ceramic disks that are highlighted in this teaser work in-conjunction with specially-developed P-Zero Corsa tyres from Pirelli, that were created specifically for the ‘720S.’
We will bring you more details on the ‘720S’ when it makes its official debut on March 7th at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show, so stay tuned to CarShowroom. But if you’d like to see the ‘720S’ in its entirety, read our earlier report about its accidental reveal.
