McLaren’s got it going on.

McLaren 720S Revealed... Sort Of

With the McLaren 650S getting a little long in the tooth, and there’s been a successor waiting in the wings for some time now. Known internally as the P14 (and to hacks as the 720S), the replacement Super Series car was teased with a rather tight shot of its behind, focusing on its rear lights and its active wing. This indicated, to us at least, that McLaren was keen on keeping the car under wraps until it’s official unveiling at the upcoming Geneva motor show in March.

That changed with this photo though, showing every last detail of the car from a rather flattering angle. Assumed to have been snapped at a dealer event, the photo shows off the 720S’ angular face, which reminds us of the Zenvo ST1. Down the sides, its link to the McLaren P1 hypercar is clear, while the rear remains like a bit of a mystery. The colour is striking too, and certainly brings back memories of the brilliant MP4-12C.

McLaren Reveals Monocage II For 650S Successor

Earlier this month, we got photos of McLaren’s Monocage II intensively carbon-fibre structure that will underpin the 720S as well as the next generation of McLaren sports cars that are due in the future. That structure is likely the biggest contributor to the 720S’ claimed dry weight of just 1283kg, about 18kg lighter than the outgoing 650S and lighter than its closest competition.

In any case, we are certainly looking forward to seeing this car in the metal at the Geneva motor show in 6-weeks time. Or sooner, if McLaren keeps leaving it out in the open like this.
