Mazda has rocked the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas by whipping the covers from these terrific MX-5 derivatives – a Spyder and a Speedster (both concepts).
“Both MX-5 Spyder and MX-5 Speedster are uncompromising designs that highlight the core strengths of MX-5,” explained Ken Saward, design manager for Mazda North America.
But underneath the stylish looks is a heapof clever lightweight technology and engineering.
The Mazda MX-5 Spyder (painted in a special ‘Mercury Silver’ paint colour) runs an aero kit, grille intake and tonneau cover all in carbon-fibre plus lightweight Yokohama ADVAN Racing RS II 17-inch alloy wheels.
Interestingly the stylish interior adopts a retro look finished in Spinneybeck ‘PRIMA’ natural leather.
The MX-5 Speedster recalls classic open-top sporties from the 1950s – it ditches even the windscreen with just a diminutive wind deflector for that pure style.
Painted in a ‘Blue Ether’ colour, the MX-5 Speedster has substance too with 16-inch RAYS Extreme Gram Light wheels, a 30mm lowered ride height and adjustable coil-over suspension.
There’s also carbon-fibtre doors, a Racing Beat centre exhaust, carbon-fibre Mu-Len seats and the interior is trimmed in Alcantara.
