Mazda has just announced a new special edition of the MX-5 called the R-Sport and immediately we’ve a couple of problems with it. One, their only going to be sold in the United Kingdom and second, they’re only making 150 units of the R-Sport.
“I’m delighted that we can offer an exclusive MX-5 Convertible model to our customers. With it joining the rest of the Convertible and RF models in the line-up, we now have a great choice of MX-5s in our updated 2020 Mazda MX-5 range, which means that anyone wanting to drive a distinctive and stylish roadster can find what they need,” Mazda Motors UK, Managing Director, Jeremy Thomson said.
The MX-5 R-Sport is constructed on the standard 1.5-litre Convertible version and will feature a Polymetal Grey metallic paintjob and a grey fabric folding roof. Further, the R-Sport will receive 16-inch RAYS gunmetal alloy wheels and piano black wing mirrors, which finishes off the exterior’s look.
Inside, the R-Sport receives burgundy Nappa leather seats with silver stitching, giving the interior the same bespoke feel as the exterior, said the brand. The rest of the interior is pretty much standard and includes kit such as cruise control, heated seats, climate control and the 7-inch MZD Connect infotainment system.
Under the bonnet, the 1.5-litre four-cylinder powerplant remains unchanged and still out puts 97kW at 7,000 rpm along with 152Nm of twist from 4,500 rpm.
