Lexus surprised at the Tokyo Motor Show by revealing the LF-FC concept sedan with a fuel cell power system which drives the rear wheels conventionally and the front wheels via two in-wheel electric motors.
Lexus says the all-wheel-drive LF-FC is a pointer to the design and technology of its next flagship sedan.
Placement of the fuel-cell stack at the rear, the power control unit at the front and the T-shaped hydrogen fuel tanks provides optimal front/rear weight distribution for a sporty driving dynamic.
Styling sees a new version of the hallmark ‘spindle’ grille and charp-looking L-shaped DRLs in the front fenders.
Inside are gesture controls for audio and climate control with a holographic image on the centre console.
