Lexus Teases UX Concept, Paris Debut For Sporty Crossover

Lexus has revealed a new concept vehicle that it will be showing off at the upcoming 2016 Paris Motor Show called the UX that has been tagged with the phrase ‘Imaginative Expressions’.

How exactly those two words pertains to the UX Concept is perhaps unknowable, but because Lexus did not include much of any detail besides a single photograph, what can be observed is a high riding crossover with a distinctly coupe-esque body that cleverly hides its rear doors.

Leaning heavily towards sporty styling, the UX features flared wheel arches, large and rather complicated wheels, finished with the sort of unique angular visual motif that we’ve come to expect from the Japanese luxury marque.

Early reactions to the vehicle have pegged it as the forerunner to a production model that will go on to rival the likes of the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. However, the impractical low roofline is nowhere to be found on the Lexus, instead opting to employ a long bonnet and less steeply raked A-pillar to achieve a similarly sporty effect.

It doesn’t seem to be a deliberate offshoot on an existing model either, further distancing the connection to the German premium rivals. Should it keep its dimensions and most of its radical styling, Lexus should have a compelling product with the UX if they choose to actually sell it.

An “immersive driver experience” is also part of the UX’s show floor party trick repertoire, meaning that we’re likely in store for some futuristic interior design and technology from Lexus, who continues by saying it “marries traditional craftsmanship with high-tech manufacturing techniques.”

Sounds about right for the Paris Motor Show.
