Like Toyota Australia, the local Lexus team has completed the required paperwork to confirm some 8,201 of its RX 330, IS 250 and GS 300 models sold in Australia are included in the latest worldwide recall of Toyota vehicles.
More than 1.5 million Toyota vehicles are affected, but locally the vehicles required for recall are some Kluger models and the three Lexus variants.
The Lexus vehicles included are:
• Lexus RX 330 produced between February 2003 and October 2005 (6,970 vehicles)
• Lexus GS 300 produced between January 2005 and November 2005 (580 vehicles)
• Lexus IS 250 produced between September 2005 and November 2005 (651 vehicles)
Like the Kluger recall, the Lexus vehicles require attention to their brake master cylinders. If incorrect brake fluid has been added, there is a possibility a seal in the master cylinder could dry and curl-up which results in a leak of the master cylinder brake fluid.
If enough brake fluid is lost, the brake system warning light will illuminate.
Unless the master cylinder is topped-up, if fluid loss continues the brake pedal will feel ‘soft’ and eventually the brakes will not operate at maximum capacity.
Lexus has received 50 reports of concerns from local owners, but no accidents have resulted.
Owners affected will be contracted by Lexus via mail in coming days. All repairs will be completed by Lexus dealers at no cost to the owners.
Lexus says owners can still drive their vehicles as usual unless the brake system warning light becomes illuminated – in which case they should visit their nearest Lexus dealer.
