To compete with rivals like the BMW 1 Series and Audi A3, Lexus has tailored its new small hatchback – the Lexus CT 200h – for high performance drivers.

The CT 200h will debut the latest generation of Lexus Hybrid Drive with four selectable modes, including a SPORT function which exploits its dynamic chassis set-up - including the world’s first production version of lateral performance dampers. In this mode, settings for the electronic stability control and power steering automatically adjust to provide sharper feedback.

In fact, the SPORT mode also changes the instrumentation with the usual Lexus Hybrid blue backlighting replaced by a more sporty red colour and the hybrid power meter swaps to a rev counter (tachometer).

Petrol versions will feature a 1.8-litre VVT-i engine combined with the electric motor and an electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission (E-CVT) for sporty response at all speeds. A full hybrid, the Lexus CT 200h can run purely on the electric motor at speeds up to 50km/h.

Around town, most Lexus CT 200h drivers will opt for the ‘ECO’ and ‘Normal’ modes which adjust the throttle response and air-conditioning performance to achieve minimum fuel consumption, optimum ride comfort and quiet operation.
