It’s a shame these photographs of what appear to be official shots for the next Megane RS, one of the more hotly awaited cars in the circle of car enthusiasts, have been revealed to be ginned up by some intrepid Photoshopper.

They first appeared on the Renault News Germany Facebook Group and later republished by Pistonheads, showing some rather lovely shots of the car’s exterior from the front and rear with the requisite yellow/orange paint scheme - looking decidedly darker than the popular Liquid Yellow finish on the current Megane RS.

What clinched the illusion was the interior shots which featured lightweight bucket seats, a full assortment creature comforts including a touchscreen infotainment display - which are unlikely to cut the mustard in super lightweight versions - and what looked like an automatic transmission with shift paddles behind the steering wheel - no doubt a dual-clutch unit. There was even a ‘4Control’ badge along the car’s B-pillar, confirming all-wheel drive for the previously (current) front-driven hot hatch.

Alas, Pistonheads had reached out to Renault, who confirmed that those pictures are indeed not of the official car that is still being developed by RenaultSport on its journey to production in 2018, with a legitimate reveal expected to be held somewhere around mid-2017.

Once it does reach showrooms, it will face to face off against the and the what could be the next iteration of the Volkswagen Golf GTI (MK7.5) and the equally four-wheel driven Ford Focus RS.
