Sant Agata certainly aimed to dazzle at this year’s Los Angeles motor show, as the Lamborghini Huracan Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder made its international debut. The Spyder is essentially the drop-top sibling to the Huracan LP580-2, which made its debut a year ago.
Just like the LP580-2 (which doesn’t share its name, curiously), the Spyder is motivated by a 5.2-litre V10, producing 426kW of power and 540Nm of torque, sent exclusively to the rear wheels (would you have guessed that) through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The Spyder weighs in at 1509kg, making it only 120kg heavier than the LP580-2 it complements. Despite this, Lamborghini claims that it can hit 100km/h from rest in just 3.6 seconds, and it will hurtle on to a top speed of 319km/h. In comparison, losing the roof means losing 0.2 seconds in the century sprint, and 1km/h from the top speed of its fixed-roof sibling.
The performance deficit is certainly not going to bother potential buyers though, with the roof coming down to allow for almost all of the aurally-delicious V10 howl to come crashing into the cabin. Top-up to top-down only takes 17-seconds, and the roof can be raised or lowered at speeds of up to 50km/h.
Weight distribution remains the same as the coupe, with a 40/60 split being touted, but it sports a mildly revised suspension setup, and changes to the traction and stability control systems. Magnetic ride control and dynamic steering is also available, though as options.
The Lamborghini Huracan Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder will be made available on Australian shores in January 2017, with prices pegged at $416,790 (before ORC).
