Lamborghini has pulled the wraps off the Centenario Roadster at the Monterey Car Week in California to accompany its roofed counterpart, of which just 20 units will be made with each body style.
At the 2016 Geneva Motor Show Lamborghini unveiled the Centenario, a very limited edition supercar based upon their Aventador that was created to celebrate the 100th year since founder Ferrucio Lamborghini’s birth.
Mechanically, the Centenario Roadster is identical to the Coupe that we saw debut earlier this year, and does indeed bear an unmissable resemblance to the Aventador - perhaps more so than is necessary to truly separate the two.
Mounted in the middle is a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 that generates 566kW (14kW higher than the hardcore Aventador SV) and 690Nm of torque. There is a weight penalty, however, to the Roadster, gaining 50kg in the transition to shed the fixed roof despite its rigid carbon fibre monocoque. That has resulted in a 0.1 second slow 0-100km/h sprint time (2.9-seconds) but manages to keep its top speed level at 349km/h.
Just like the Coupe, the Centenario Roadster’s construction comprises of liberal use of carbon fibre panels where the standard Aventador would have used aluminium. The car also uses some active aerodynamics, rear-wheel steering, a special fan-shaped wheel design for cooling the brakes, and an active rear wing that extends as well as rotates depending on the car’s need for downforce.
They are estimated to cost over $3 million, but as with the Centenario Coupe, they have all been sold out.
