Here it is – Lamborghini’s V10-powered Huracan – the V10-powered supercar with big shoes to fill as the replacement for the Gallardo.
The Volkswagen-owned Italian supercar manufacturer has sold 14,022 examples of the Gallardo making it the single most successful Lamborghini model – however with its breathtaking looks and stunning performance, the all-new Huracan seems destined to get heartbeats racing all over the world.
Lamborghini says its designers were after a bold, edgy look but with beautifully sculptured forms. The hexagonal side windows are works of art and all of the lighting systems are LED (smaller size frees designers from more traditional light forms).
When sales start within the next month, Lamborghini will offer the Huracan in a choice of 17 paint colours including seven new ones.
Inside are a slender dashboard (primarily housing a multi-function 12.3-inch TFT screen) and a slim centre tunnel. Two-tone and different leather colours are optional.
And underneath, extensive use of aluminium and carbon fibre allows the Lamborghini Huracan to tip the scales at only 1,422kgs. The mid-engine layout afford a weight distribution of 42:58.
Power comes from a new naturally-aspirated V10 with ‘Inlezione Diretta Sratificata’ (a combination of direct and indirect injection) and dry sump. Maximum power is 448kW at a screaming 8,250rpm and peak torque of 560Nm is delivered at 6,500rpm.
Drive is to all four wheels via a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In normal driving, 30 per-cent of the power is transmitted to the front wheels.
There’s also new electromechnical power steering.
So zero to 100km/h is well-and-truly in the supercar league, rated at 3.2 seconds and the top speed more than 325km/h.
Braking is handled by standard carbon-ceramic discs.
File this one under ‘D’ for desirable.
