First there was La Ferrari and now Lamborghini has followed with its first hybrid supercar – the Asterion LPI 910-4 unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.
With the 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine combining with three electric motors, the Lamborghini Asterion has combined power of 660kW (that’s 910bhp in the old language!) and 560Nm of torque for a top speed of 320km/h and zero to 100km/h in 3.0-seconds (and can accelerate from zero to 125km/h on pure electric (zero emissions) power.
Just as important – it has a zero-emissions pure electric range of 50kms and fuel consumption is rated at 4.12l/100kms.
Looks are a bit different but still distinctly Lamborghini and underneath is a monocoque of carbon-fibre.
Interestingly the Lamborghini ‘Raging Bull’ logo is subtly embedded i. the side along with the ‘tricolore’ flag of Italy.
As you’d expect from Lamborghini, the V10 is mounted longitudinally as a mid-engine with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission a transaxle design and the lithium-ion battery pack sits longways on the central tunnel for optimized safety and weight distribution.
An electric motor incorporating an integrated starter motor sits between the engine and transmission while two further electric motors drive the front wheels with power supplied via a torque vectoring function – so the Lamborghini Asterion is all-wheel-drive or in pure-electric mode, front-wheel-drive.
Inside, the two seats are mounted higher than normal Lamborghini sports cars, reflecting the Asterion’s positioning as a car you can drive every day in the city.
