Jeep has launched a tough and luxurious limited edition version of the Wrangler called the Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition.

Available in both two-door Wrangler and four-door Wrangler Unlimited models, just 30 have been secured for local sale priced at $49,000 (two-door) or $53,000 (four door). For an automatic transmission, add $2,000.

As the name suggests, the limited edition models pay homage to 10 years of the ‘Rubicon’ nameplate (the name coming from the iconic off-road trail near Lake Tahoe, Nevada which Jeep fans flock to each year). Fittingly, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition is loaded with much off-road equipment and is claimed to be the most capable factory-produced Wrangler model so far.

The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition is powered by the Pentastar 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine delivering 209kW/347Nm and driving through either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission and Jeep’s part-time 4WD system. That means front and rear Dana 44 axles with a 4:1 axle ratio, Tru-Lok electronic remote-locking differentials and a Rock-Trac transfer case with 4:1 low-range. As well, the front anti-roll bar can be electronically disconnected for maximum wheel articulation.

With the six-speed manual transmission, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition offers a crawl ratio of 73.1:1 for serious off-road work.

The limited edition model enjoys a half-inch higher ride height than regular Jeep Wranglers and sits on unique 17-inch Rubicon alloy wheels finished in satin black with a Wrangler ‘icon’ logo on each wheel.

There’s also a purposeful-looking bonnet with dual intake ‘Power Domes’. From Mopar come rock rails, tail-light guards and a black fuel filler door.

Each comes with a body-colour ‘Freedom’ hard-top and a soft-top which can be easily fitted. Colour choice is two – white or an exclusive ‘Anvil’ colour (it’s grey and looks menacing). Fender flares are also body-colour and the rear glass adds deep-tinted sunscreen.

In addition the Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition scores a unique instrument cluster, Uconnect media centre with a 6.4-inch touchscreen and satellite navigation plus the premium Electronic Vehicle Information Center with displays covering critical information like oil pressure, oil temperature and tyre pressures.
