Infiniti has teased their QX50 Concept that’s due to debut at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show. This comes following the Japanese marque’s Q30 and QX30 which were previously featured on a motor show floor before being pushed to production.
The QX50, though, is the larger of those siblings, falling into the medium SUV category. But much like those more compact models, this too looks very ‘production ready’. Considering that Infiniti did not change much the last time they showcased a future showroom model, this QX50 Concept could very well be a fairly accurate representation of what’s to be on the roads.
The car is also a continuation of their ‘Powerful Elegance’ design language, with a relatively long bonnet, more muscular lines and a flowing motif adorning the exterior. It’s also the vehicle with which they are planning to debut their future development in autonomous drive systems, called ProPilot, which also includes a more advanced Predictive Forward Collision alert system.
Roland Krueger, President of Infiniti, said: “With the unveiling of the QX Sport Inspiration at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show, we showed the future of INFINITI QX models. The new QX50 Concept evolves this concept further and shows how INFINITI could develop its future presence in the fastest-growing vehicle segment globally.”
Naturally, the new QX50 Concept, and the production car it will evolve into, will use Infiniti’s new brand of turbocharged engines that use variable turbine geometry forced induction to achieve more power with less lag and some upswing in fuel economy as well through a variable compression ratio. They say the QX50 will have a projected power figure of around 200kW and 390Nm.
